Updates
Although I haven't posted an update in a while, I have been doing work on the site.

I have done a lot of work on things behind the scenes. Some of it you will see, and some of it you won't. I just cleaned up a small handful of 404 errors caused by outdated links in the site. I have also been doing some work on the other *.dynamicbits.com subdomains.

Super Bowl Commercials
Overall, it is my opinion that this year's commercials were not as good as years past. Of course, there were some good ones.

Don't Judge Too Quickly: Ameriquest produced what are arguably the best two commercials this year. The first one shows a man saying "You are getting robbed" on his cell phone while in a convenience store. The clerk mistakes the situation as a hold-up and proceeds to mace the customer and hit him with a bat as his wife uses a tazer. The second shows a man cooking a surprise dinner for his girlfriend. Her cat knocks the pasta sauce off of the stove and it spills all over the floor. The girlfriend walks in to see the man holding the cat in one hand, a knife in the other hand, and red sauce all over.

I work with a bunch of monkeys: CareerBuilder.com's series of three commercials featuring a man who literally works in an office with a bunch of monkeys. This is almost one of those "You had to see it" situations. The monkeys do things like copy their butts on the copy machine and put a whoopee cushion on the man's chair.

Thank-you: While not funny, this commercial was one of the best I've seen in a long time. It begins with a group of soldiers in an airport, presumably returning from active duty. One person stops what he is doing and begins clapping. By the end of the commercial, the entire airport has joined him. The scene fades out and the words "Thank You" are shown. This is something that has been long due.

Sure, those commercials were great, but what about the commercials you didn't see? A very funny one comes from Anheuser-Busch, and can be seen on their website. It pokes some fun at the incident last year with Janet Jackson. Had this aired, I'm certain it would have been one of the top picks.

Remember that Ford Mustang commercial that was played more than once? That was no mistake. Originally slated to appear was a Lincoln advertisement for their new Mark LT truck. The commercial was pulled because of a few complaints from an extreme minority. It is too bad that we are becoming so politically correct that we have to watch everything we say and do. Every day, we are seeing the First Amendment mean less and less.

Merry Christmas / New CD
Rise Against - Siren Song of the Counter CultureWell, first of all, I hope everyone (that celebrates) has a wonderful Christmas.

Second, I bought a new CD today. For those of you that know me, I can sense your confusion. Until today, I haven't bought a new CD in the stores (Excluding $1 CDs) in about 7 years.

It all started a couple weeks ago when I heard the band Rise Against on the radio. The song was "Give it All," and it was a nice change of pace from what I normally hear on the radio. I'd say it mostly falls into the punk category. After hearing it a few more times, I decided to download the CD. Yes, that is technically illegal. I've learned my lesson in the past about buying a CD just because one of the songs is good. Well, it turned out the entire CD was good. Long story short, I ended up buying it from Amazon. If you are into any type of punk music, visit their website to hear a short clip of "Give it All."

Let ths be a lesson to the RIAA. When you sue downloaders, you are driving away potential customers. I wouldn't have bought this CD if I hadn't downloaded it.

Veterans Day
Veterans Day PosterI don't think I have to say too much about the men and women that have served this country. Well, not too much besides: Thank-you.

Andy.DynamicBits.com
If you take a look at your address bar, you will notice it says http://andy.dynamicbits.com. I have decided to separate my personal pages from the main site. Don't panic! Nearly everything that was formerly accessible on the DynamicBits.com site will now be available at Andy.DynamicBits.com. A few things will stay where they were, for example the knowledge base. I bet you didn't even know about that, did you? I really only have external links to it so far. I need to get a page that lists all of the topics in there.

I already know what you are thinking.. "Won't that cause a lot of broken links?" In order to avoid that, most requests for the old content will be automatically redirected to the new location. The exceptions are pages that will be staying at their old location, or pages that will exist in two locations (same name, different content).

The Salton Sea, Happy Easter
Salton Sea DVD CoverI rented "The Salton Sea" last night. I had seen the previews for it when it was in theaters but didn't think it looked too impressive. Last week I saw it on HBO but didn't realize what movie it was since they don't tell you the name at the end of the movie as Encore does. I stopped at Blockbuster to see if I could figure out what movie it was and eventually found it.

The previews didn't do this movie justice in my opinion. I looked around on the internet and saw a few people that thought the movie was good, but nothing special. While this movie isn't that great in some people's book, I thought it to be fantastic. Ebert and Roper gave it two thumbs up. I am purposely not going to discuss any of the plot as I feel the way it unfolds is part of what makes it a great movie. So, next time you feel like renting a movie, why not give "The Salton Sea" a try?

And of course, Happy Easter to everyone.

Domain Problem
Visitors to the site over approximately the past week may have been redirected to an eNom domain registration page. I was out of state on vacation and unaware of the problem. I corrected the situation immediately after it was brought to my attention. The cause of the problm was that the nameservers for dynamicbits.com had been changed without my knowledge. My registrar told me that it was because the domain had expired. I have my doubts, and will be switching to a new registrar before the expiration of my registration.

New Layout/New content
This is a site idea I have had made for over 2 and a half years, but never published. I made some quick modifications (fixed links, removed obviously outdated comments, added messages on blank pages, etc.) so that I could get a working version up until I complete everything that has to be done. Because of this, a few links may not work, and a few sections are not complete. Bear with me until I get everything completed.

As you may have noticed, the site has been totally redesigned. Some of the new features are:

  • Music - Coming Soon
  • Images and rollover script - Make it a little more lively. We are looking for a graphics person to make some images for the site. If you are interested, please contact us for more details.
  • Frames - Frames were necessary for two reason. 1. The music uses different pages, and must be loaded separately from the main content. 2. Few people want to wait for the navagation images to load each time they go to another page. Both the frames and frameless versions are available at any time.
  • New high contrast color scheme - A majority of votes showed that visitors wanted different colors.
  • Navagation panel - At the bottom of every page, or soon to be every page, is a table with a light yellow background. This is the same on every page and links you to the main areas of the site. You need JavaScript enabled to view the navagation panel.
